Melody Patterson (Ella Mae) had just wrapped up her regular role as Wrangler Jane in F Troop (1965).
This episode was adapted as a 1967 View-Master reel and retitled as 'Last Wheelbarrow To Pokeyville'.
The actress playing the old, pipe-smoking hillbilly woman, Billie Hayes, had played a similar role as 'Mammy Yokum' In the 1959 movie version of the classic comic strip "Li'l Abner". And she went on to play the character 'Witchiepoo', in the Saturday morning children's show "H.R. Pufnstuf".
While Michael Nesmith the character was not married Michael Nesmith the actor was married in real life to Phyllis Barbour Nesmith (27 June 1964 - 21 March 1972) and they had four children. When Michael mentions his wife and kids this can be considered an instance of him the fourth wall. Of course, there is an even longer fourth wall breaking sequence later in the episode when he, Mickey and Davy get out a script and check their lines.
Photographs of Mickey and Michael shot during filming of this show were featured on the back of the Monkees' fourth album, "Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones, Ltd."
