- Mike writes a new song, but the publishing company he tries to sell it to tries to rip him off.
- When Mike gets a junk-mail ad from Bernie Klass, a shady music publisher, he decides to submit a novelty tune, "Gonna Buy Me A Dog," and to his surprise Klass claims he can get the song into a movie featuring actress Joanie Janz. First, though, Mike must pay a fee of $100, and when Micky learns of this he leads Peter and Davy to Klass' office where they learn that Mike has been conned.
Mike eventually learns the hard way that he has been taken in, and is devastated, but Micky decides to trick Klass by posing as a big-shot movie director looking for a song with a dog in the title. He then proceeds through the studio bossing around a director, telling a painter to repaint plants, and eventually taking in the eager-to-please Klass. Eventually The Monkees romp through the studio amid the strains of their rollicking anthem to love and understanding, "For Pete's Sake."
