- Davy's grandfather is coming to visit from England, which should be good news. Problem is, Davy has been lying to his granddad about being a success in America; even worse, Davy's granddad, being his legal guardian, can force him to return to England. The guys must thus scramble to make Davy look like he's made it before his grandfather arrives.
Micky gets a chauffer's suit and "borrows" a Rolls Royce, telling its owner tht the car needs service. Peter takes an ice cream vendor's uniform so he can pose as Davy's butler. Mike takes a job briefly as a chef in an Italian restaurant so he can get his hands on a chef's uniform. When Davy's grandfather arrives, the guys seemingly pull off the ruse that Davy is rich without a hitch.
Then a neighbor barges in to borrow some food. She takes a look in their refrigerator and comments, "Your refrigerator is barer than mine!" The ice cream vendor rolls in with his cart and demands that Peter give him back his uniform. Lastly, the owner of the Rolls Royce comes in yelling about how he wants his car returned. Davy's grandfather asks for order than asks his grandson to explain everything. Davy has no choice but to admit that he's not the success his grandfather thinks he is.
Davy's grandfather demands that his grandson return to England with him. He tells Mike that Davy is wasting his life, and needs to be where he'll have some guidance. Mike is not convinced that the granddad is acting in Davy's best interest, but he can't change the old man's mind. The next day, after a sorrowful goodbye, Davy leaves for the airport with his grandfather.
Mike, Micky and Peter cry over Davy's departure, but after talking it over, decide they can't let him leave the country. While Davy waits for his grandfather to come to the gate so they can catch the plane, his bandmates take on various disguises and pull tricks in order to delay his grandfather.
Granddad catches on to their scheme, and realizes that Davy's friends must be special if they were willing to go through all of that to keep him there. He reasons that his grandson is in good hands and allows Davy to stay in the States.
Some time later, noting the successful return of Davy's grandfather to England, Micky realizes that the one thing they should have done was play a song for him - cuing Mike's country-rock number "Sweet Young Thing."
In the epilogue Davy talks about his actual father and how he purchased a house for him.
