Good Help Is Not Cheap
DKosty12321 May 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Eve goes to Herb's office for lunch only to find his secretary is ill. Eve takes over for her despite being away from work for 20 years and his concerns about her taking the job. Then, Kay stops at the office and Herb needs another temp. Kay decides to step in.

From here Herb's office becomes a three ring circus akin to Lucy & Ethel taking over though even worse. Everybody seems to want to spend time at Herb's office while Herb has an important deal brewing which could be messed up.

This is a good episode as the situations at the office seem to get funnier and funnier and then somehow Herb pulls off the important deal despite all the distractions around his office.

How to Succeed in Business with your wife as your secretary.
mark.waltz2 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
And while you're at it, don't hire your daughter's buttinsky mother-in-law.

That's what happens when Herb's partner is out of town and his secretary, Jeff Donnell, must go home sick with the flu. Business associate Jerome Cowan arrives in town and requires the secretary for which K volunteers herself for the week. Like the sequence of Auntie Mame screwing up a switchboard, everything that can go wrong does go wrong. Eve Arden, who played that role on tour, is hysterical, and adding Kay into the mix makes it even funnier. Roger shows up to try to work, so used to Kay's noise at home, and later Suzie and Jerry show up to ask a favor. It nearly becomes like the stateroom scene in 'A Night at the Opera".

After pretty much screwing up everything in the office, they end up interfering in the personal situations that Cowan is in the middle of dealing with, unintentionally of course. There can't be a wedding on the show without Kay and Eve singing a wedding song, and thanks to their interference, for once everything goes through just well and Herb ends up winning the deal he was in the middle of. A very entertaining episode that still provides lots of laughs.

The Lucy Show?
wes-connors26 December 2016
At his Los Angeles law offices, Herb's secretary is out sick. Eve (Eve Arden) arrives and persuades Herb (Herbert Rudley) she should serve as a temporary replacement. Very quickly, Kaye (Kaye Ballad) stops by and joins Eve in the office. The two women cause comic uproar and almost spoil a business deal. After lunching on Deviled eggs, Eve and Kaye allow Roger (Roger C. Carmel) to work in the office, too. He is unable to work at home without Kaye in the house. Naturally, Herb's office becomes a madhouse. In this episode, Eve and Kaye continue following Desi Arnaz and the series' writers (Bob Carroll Jr. and Madelyn Davis) "Lucy" antics. It's interesting to see them go for the concurrent "Lucy Show" situation, with each playing the ditsy secretary. Herb would have been great in the "Mr. Mooney" (Gale Gordon) role. Also, the Mothers-In-Law assist in the marriage of "Bachelor Father" boy Jimmy Boyd and "Dr. Pepper Girl" Donna Loren.
