Title Is Clever Play on The Plot

Warning: Spoilers
This one starts with the ultimate crackdown. Herb & Roger are going on a hunting & fishing trip to the mountains. While they are away they take most of their wives money & cancel their credit cards so they can't help their newlywed kids. Then Kay's son loses his job with one more payment due on his young wife's engagement ring.

Kay comes up with the idea that Jerry can open a catering business selling spaghetti & meatballs to the nearby college to raise money. Seems the line of credit to the grocery store is something the husbands didn't cut off. Before you know it business is booming.

Then Kay & Eve are making a meatball delivery and the daughter calls Eve because she can't find her engagement ring and it might be in one of the delivered meatballs at the reception they are dropping off. From here, it is follow that meatball with Eve Arden doing a fair amount of physical comedy that would make Lucy proud.

Once the ring problem is solved, the husbands come home early and they try to hide the business from them. In the end the husbands get showered with evidence. This is a top notch episode with more physical comedy than you see much anymore on TV sit coms. It hits on a lot of cylinders.

Life is just a bowl of meatballs...with LOTS of garlic!

Warning: Spoilers
The ladies play a game of "Ring Around the Suzie" as the mothers aide Jerry and Suzie in a catering business to sell Kay's spaghetti and meatballs to the kids on campus studying late. When they get a big order of just meatballs for a faculty meeting, everything is fine until Suzie panics thinking that her engagement ring has fallen into the ground beef. This leaves Kay and Eve to grab every meatball to get it back, resulting in a classic comedy sketch that is among the funniest scene in any sitcom ever.

Veteran character actor Percy Helton is hysterically funny as the college dean, a far cry from the many sleazy characters he played in all those film noir and crime dramas of the 1940's and 50's. With Eve and Kay sneaking pretty much every meatball every person picks up and fighting with the kitchen staff. "Follow that Meatball!" Kay bellows at Eve as Helton grabs a few, and before long, everybody is missing their meatball. Kay has to break into song ("Only a Rose", not "On Top of Spaghetti") while Eve plays meatball thief, and nobody spots her.

Don't be chowing down on meatballs while watching Eve fill up her purse and later her hat as she tries to get every last one. You might choke with laughter. And then there's the denouement when they return to the garage apartment. But that's not the end of it. Herb and Roger, returning from a vacation early, catch the girls red handed (or spaghetti sauce handed), and this time, Suzie's among the ones in trouble. That pesky old garage apartment door (and the chime doorbell that serves another purpose) steps in for the last laugh, and it's a good one. This episode never fails to make me laugh hysterically.
