At the solve-point, Jessica is describing to Willy Montego how he stepped in the blood. The flashback shows a disembodied right foot/shoe stepping in a small amount of blood to the right of the corps. Then Jessica describes noting how she saw Willy Montego's shoes, specifically the soles. One was wet and one was not. The blood had been deliberately washed off. The flashback shows the left shoe sole wet.
Unless filming were currently going on, there would be no reason for a standing set like the Bates house and motel to have running water or to be stocked inside with furniture and props. The Bates buildings are exteriors. The interior scenes were filmed in a sound stage building.
Assuming the show's fictionalization that the interiors and exteriors really were filmed at the same building, the set could have been left furnished for use during Universal's VIP studio tour, which allows guests to leave the tour tram and walk around. The set from 'Friends' is still erect and furnished to this day for use during WB's studio tour.

When Jessica confronts the killer in the Bates' Motel, they stand in front of the bed. In the upper left corner of the screen, we can see the cue cards moving as they are being changed. A chair in foreground partially obscures this, but it is visible for a split second, and among the writing we can clearly see "NTED". The picture cuts away for a while to flashbacks. When we return to the motel room, we can see the cue cards once again.
Around the 52 minute mark where Jessica and Willy are in the motel by the window cue cards can be seen behind Willy.
When Jessica looks out of the Bates house's kitchen window she sees the motel below. The kitchen is at the back of the house and faces away from the motel.
When Jessica leaves the room to take a call from Seth, she says, "Excuse me Ellen." The woman she was talking to is named Leonora.
Jessica expresses surprise that the movie rights were purchased so soon after the novel's publication. In real life, highly-anticipated books are often bought prior to publication; the industry term is "in galleys."
Lt. Hanrahan drives all the way to a suspect's house to question them. Since the murder took place on the studio lot, it would be very obvious who could or couldn't be a suspect, since anyone visiting the lot has to sign in and out.
