We have the soon-to-graduate college Mike about to meet his fiancee's father, Tom, played by Sebastian Cabot. Sally's father was a world-traveling architect. Just because his family said they thought he'd be nervous, he suddenly got nervous. He started doing one idiotic thing after another and never settled down.

Mr. Morrison comes in the door and Mike pumps his hand in a vigorous handshake about 30 times. Mike says "Let me take your bag" and before Tom OK's that, Mike yanks the suitcase but drops it on Mr. Morrison's foot. He asks if he can take his coat and without waiting for an answer grabs at it and starts to yank up-before the man had a chance to unbutton it. Tom opens a package and shows Mike and Sally a rare thing he brought back from across the ocean but Mike can't just admire it, he starts to take it out of the wrapping and it breaks apart with most of it falling on the floor. Later, Mr. Morrison whips out a cigarette and Mike insists on lighting it for him, promptly setting his beard on fire because of the clumsy way he held the lighter. (How often to men light other men's cigarettes?) Mike later repeats several of these silly miscues.

I was yelling at the TV, "Quit grabbing at things" as that was the cause of several blunders. Now Mr. Morrison was smiling, forgiving, understanding to a point of excess-never complaining one time through all that happened to him. The next day he talked calmly with Mike about how he had nothing to worry about, but that didn't do anything to settle him down.

There were two other parts of the show that were by far the highlights. Mr. Morrison wanted to retrieve something from his coat, which had been hung in the hall closet at the Douglas home, where a warped door made it stick and hard to open. While he was standing in the doorway, Steve came home via the back door and when he opened the door from the kitchen, he accidentally closed their guest in the closet as that door slammed shut and could not be opened for some time.

Bub got into the act too, forgetting an important phone message. Steve had arranged for his guest to go to his colleague's architect club meeting and be named an honorary member at a club banquet. The phone message that Bub forgot to give Steve was changing the room where the banquet was being held. This resulted in Steve setting up Tom not for the planned architectural meeting, but some wild lodge meeting where they thought-because of what Steve told them-that Tom was to be initiated as a new member. Their welcoming included slapping him in the butt with paddles, tying him up, and squirting him to excess with seltzer bottles.

This would have been a really funny episode if they had only orchestrated the incidents with Mike to not be so incredibly dumb on his part. If I treat this one like two school semesters, the first one is a 1-it was dreadful, while the second a 9. Overall, the total score comes out a 5, but I'm sure many people who try to watch this will find the beginning so bad they never make it to the good part.
