The arrangement of the theme tune heard over the opening and closing credits is different to the one heard in subsequent episodes. It is slower-paced and a vibraphone is included instead of a piano. The opening credits show historical images of children next to the names of the central actors, presumably to show their characters' past selves.
According to later episode "The Wrong Side of the Sheets", Joshua Pledge dies on [Saturday] August 17th 1968 (two days after Granada broadcast the edition).

According to Vince Powell, Hylda Baker and Jimmy Jewel's feud started during recording of this episode when Barker objected to a scene where Jewel got all the laughs. Later, she went "beserk" that the episode finished on a close-up on him. "Stop the show", she screeched, waving her hands in front of the cameras. "I'm not having this, I'm the star of the show, not him". To pacify matters, it was decided to end with both of them in the final frame. Powell remembered, "From that day on, it was open warfare. For the next five years during the run of the series, they barely exchanged one word, save for the ones which were written for them in the script".
