Newhart Pulling out all the Stops
masercot2 April 2015
This is one of my favorite episodes: A telethon to save the station (a commercial station). Dick Louden (Bob Newhart) is reluctant to do it at first, but, as sleep deprivation and pride enter into the project, he eventually ends up running the camera and the tot-board AND hosting the telethon. As his mind goes from lack of sleep, the performance gets funnier and funnier. Stephanie, the Louden's maid, even sings for the telethon... an overly-cute version of Old Man River... which Dick says is, "just so beautiful".

Larry and the two Daryls make appearances as well, rounding off this episode as practically perfect...

An Awesome Performance
Hitchcoc27 March 2023
Michael has been spending money to buy stuff for Stephanie. He promotes a telethon to bring money to the station--even though it's a commercial station. Dick is designated as the emcee for a 48 hour tour de force. What happens is that Bob Newhart (Dick Loudon) shows all his comedy chops as he slowly disintegrates from lack of sleep. No matter how hard he works, almost nothing is being pledged. He does interviews but can't remember the names of the people who have been on. While he's in the worst of it, the entire crew (who haven't been paid) leave the station. For me, the highlight of this episode is Stephanie doing a song she did in boarding school. She sings the flattest version of Old Man River I've ever heard, but her mugging and perkiness are to die for. Great episode. One of the better ones.
