- [Frank and Stan look on from a different reality as a young punk accidentally shoots the detective]
- Detective Stan Gates: Well, there goes his life.
- Frank Nolan: His life? You're the one getting shot.
- Detective Stan Gates: Yeah, but he's the one who's going to have to pay for it.
- [discussing his sister's murder]
- Philip Benning: The one thing you learn with age, Miss Peronivic, is that time heals nothing... it doesn't even dull the pain.
- [discussing Stan's previous relationship with Charlotte Benning]
- Frank Nolan: Why didn't you tell us before?
- Detective Stan Gates: All I've got left of Charlie are memories - they're private and they're mine. In 15 years, I've never told anybody. Philip didn't even know. Now you give me one good reason why I should have told you.
- Fay Peronivic: Because you didn't walk through that door here tonight to relive all this with a bunch of perfect strangers. Something is not adding up here, Stan, and we're going to find out what.
- Frank Nolan: Ah, excuse me. I don't remember volunteering to play Professor Plum in the study with a magnifying glass.
- Fay Peronivic: Stan, you wanted to know the truth. Well, if you walk out that door, you'll never know the truth. Can you live with that?
- Blackie: More important, can you *die* with it?
- Fay Peronivic: This is like one big game of Clue - but there's one card missing... Colonel Mustard with the candlesticks.
- [Frank and Stan go back in time to the place of Charlotte's murder]
- Frank Nolan: This is your second chance, Stan!
- Detective Stan Gates: No... it's my last chance.
- [Philip walks into the Nightmare Café searching for Fay, but finds Stan instead]
- Philip Benning: What are you doing here?
- Detective Stan Gates: Waiting for a killer.
- Philip Benning: Really? I hope he doesn't disappoint you.
- Detective Stan Gates: No, you won't.
- Detective Stan Gates: Give me one good reason why I shouldn't kill you right now.
- Philip Benning: [chuckles, then indicates the gun in his hand] How's this?
- Detective Stan Gates: Do you know how many punks have pointed guns at me in 25 years, Benning? Punks a lot more dangerous than a sick weirdo like you.
- Philip Benning: You stay away from me, Gates! I'll have no trouble pulling this trigger.
- Detective Stan Gates: Shoot a cop, Benning? Doesn't sound very smart... but say you want to be stupid and try. You see, it doesn't matter. I'm already dead.
- [last lines]
- Blackie: [narrating] But maybe the final truth lies in an old saying, "Those that love, love forever." For those few who believe in it, there's a place set aside... a place for one last dance after the music has ended - a place called 'The Nightmare Café'.
