The baby finally arrives and before that Shelly sees three incarnations of her daughter to be. She is set to be induced but knowledge tells her not to get on a plane to Anchorage. Meanwhile, Ruth and that gnarly old guy who likes her get stranded on a road in the cold when the engine freezes up. She is carrying some free display cases and is afraid to leave them, risking possible frostbit along the way. The continuing saga of Joel and Maggie causes them to become aware of what often drives them apart. He ends up being a kind of hero through his calm when it comes to medical things. No one is more manic under other circumstance but when it comes to curing, he is a rock star.
