In reality, Tony Randall was a frequent guest on the game show, Password (1961) (as it's now referred to). Tony did display his confrontational ways to the delight of host Allen Ludden. In a showing of Password Plus (1979) during the late 1970's, Tony interrupted his counterpart Marcia Wallace, as Marcia's partner used a form of the word to win a round of Password. Tony objected and overstepped his bounds over the judges. All in good fun.
Tony Randall was actually good friends with Allen Ludden and his wife, Betty White
The $750.00 in 1972 dollars that password paid Oscar equates to $4,908.50 in 2021 dollars.
Both Oscar and Felix mention having a car in this episode.
