- Murphy: [surprised] Hope?... Hope for liaison with Li-Anne?
- Camier: [awkwardly glancing away] I don't wish to discuss it!
- Murphy: Why?
- [laughing in a mocking way when he realizes that Camier is in love with Li-Anne]
- Murphy: Mr. Camier, do you mean to tell me that your heart beats upward when Li-Anne comes into view?
- Camier: A man can dream...
- Murphy: You betray me, Mr. Camier.
- Camier: [vexed and desperate] I HAVE to keep dreaming...
- Murphy: ALL dreams betray us in the end.
- Murphy: How exactly will we kill him
- [referring to the Irish terrorist]
- Murphy: when he comes?
- Camier: [morose] It's not important. Is there anything wrong with the usual?
- Murphy: The gun is ruined!
- Camier: I'd forgotten... an injection, then?
- Murphy: [grinning creepily] A high fall from some location...
- Camier: Where from? We're INDOORS!
- Murphy: So, you've conceded!
- Camier: For the topic of discussion only! I continue to suspect an outside lookout...
- [Camier notices a large tree nearby and points at it with his umbrella]
- Camier: ... We could hang him...
- Murphy: [curious] Could that tree take the weight...?
- Camier: [holds up his briefcase of "cleaning" supplies] An experiment will verify...
- [Camier finds a thick rope and Murphy begins to tie it into a noose. Camier stares at it nervously when it is revealed that he's going to be the guinea pig for the hanging test, so to speak]
- Camier: ... Adorn me.
- [Murphy attaches the noose to Camier and attempts to hang him from the tree, but Camier notices that the branch is too short to hang anybody from]
- Camier: The drop is insufficient...
- Murphy: If we hoist him up?
- Camier: What does Mr. Burroughs look like...?
- Murphy: [puzzled] I don't remember!
- Camier: Nor do I...
- [both men stand in silent confusion and Camier puts the noose away]
- Murphy: ...I am blank. And now that I consider it, I'm not sure I've ever seen him.
- Camier: I'm not sure, either...
- [shivers with sudden stress]
- Camier: ... Perhaps he doesn't exist...
- Murphy: [trying to be reassuring to his colleague] Perhaps he will not come.
- Camier: [frightened] Perhaps... he... is... US.
- [glances around in fear]
- Camier: What must we do?
- Murphy: ...I suppose that we must wait.
- [both Murphy and Camier kneel down on the ground beside each other, looking overwhelmed]
