Was not expecting that ending.. Loved it!

I've only just started to get into the swing of OFAH and the type of humour it presents. And I can say I'm absolutely loving it!

To be honest, the majority of this episode was pretty hum drum but I can not tell you how unexpected and killer the ending was... They really set it up well with tension and hilarity.

This is a classic moment in British comedy!

"Now brace yourself Rodney......Brace yourself"

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is the end of the sublime second series , in my opinion the best series of "fools" and this episode is one of the most remembered of the entire run due to the infamous chandelier scene.

On the way back from a auction the trotters encounter a women who has broken down so they stop to offer their assistance. It turns out that this is no ordinary women it's Lady Ridgemere of Ridgemere Hall. Without any hesitation the Trotters tows Lady Ridgemere back home safely and invite them self's inside. Del overhears the lord on the phone and he is having trouble with his chandelier and Del suddenly see's this as an opportunity to earn a few quid. Armed with the high tech equipment( window lean and super-glue) they undertake the job of taking down two priceless chandelier's what could possibly go wrong ? .......

This episode is an absolute classic this was in fact based on a true story told to John Sullivan by his father. This was notable for being the first episode of "Fools" to attract an audience of over 10 million and it's not hard to see why. At the time the show attracted very little audience figures which is hard to understand cause in my opinion this was "Fools" at it's best during it's second series.

Best bit - Obviously the chandelier scene

The episode that established Only Fools And Horses

Warning: Spoilers
Only Fools And Horses wasn't an overnight success, ratings were low for the first series and it was only by word of mouth that viewers were starting to watch the show by series two. People who had taken up the recommendation had found that this was a very amusing and very original sitcom about a dodgy market trader and his gormless brother and grandfather trying to get rich.

A Touch Of Glass is the first of a long line of classic Fools episodes that everyone remembers. I still find the scene where the Trotters offer to clean ans repair the vintage chandeliers for an aristocrat hilarious, as Del thinks some Windowlene will do the job and then Grandad accidentally destroys one of the chandeliers, forcing the Trotters to make a sharp exit in their Reliant van. Also Del's new business venture of trying to sell toy cats that sing How Much Is That Doggy is, as ever, a complete flop and the cats look especially cheap and nasty. like most of Del's dodgy goods.

grandad, want a jemmy?

For me this installment is the show's best ever including the chandelier scene which is probably the funniest UK comedy moment behind "Don't tell them Pike!" Others like the later episode when Del falls through the bar hatch but this one does it for me. It's just that I he show was still finding its feet at this stage.

40 years on and there hasn't been a funnier TV moment since.

The famous scene starts at 21.40. Enjoy!

Mostly average but contains that chandelier scene
snoozejonc19 September 2020
Del, Rodney and Granddad help the broken down Lady Ridgemere get home to Ridgemere Hall.

The episode is one long build-up to it's famous final sight-gag involving the chandelier. Most of it is moderately funny, with the standout sequence for me being Rodney's awkward exchange with Lady Ridgemere as he tries to paint a rather sophisticated picture of 'Peckham Village' to her whilst Granddad bluntly injects the truth of Nelson Mandela House into the conversation.

As final acts go, the chandelier scene is a very strong finish to an otherwise average episode. So much so that I personally think the episode is considered a classic for this moment alone. However, it is a great series moment, not just for the visual comic spectacle but also the banter that comes before and after.

Personally when I re-watch it these days I skip forward to about the 21st minute and go from there.

A Touch of Glass
studioAT7 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Everyone remembers the 'chandelier' bit, of course they do, it's a genius moment penned by the late, great John Sullivan, and up there with the best moment in the shows history. If I could rate that moment rather than the whole episode, it'd be a 10.

However, as others have said though, what's surprising is that it features in a distinctly average episode, with not much else going for it.

There's a few other moments, but Del is at his most annoying, and Rodney doesn't get much of a look in.

I was surprised by this episode due to this fact.

How Much Is That Doggy in the Window?
Lunerar12 June 2020
There is no doubt that, at the time, the final minutes of this episode is UK comedy gold. Looking at the whole episode though it's very average. Many of the jokes don't land. Van Cough, a cat singing a song about a dog, it's all pretty meh.

An average episode with a classic ending. 5.5 out of 10.
