[Julia comes home while Griffin is watching TV]
Griffin Holbrook : Hey. Oh, you're home early. Cool.
Julia Salinger : [mad] Cool?
Griffin Holbrook : Okay. It's not cool. You're mad?
Julia Salinger : What were you thinking? I mean, what could possibly have been going on in your brain to think that it was okay to talk to my boss like that?
Griffin Holbrook : What was I supposed to do, sit there and watch him rag on you?
Julia Salinger : Yes. Yeah.
Griffin Holbrook : Well, no-- Nobody treats you like that. I don't care who he is.
Julia Salinger : Oh, Griffin, I got fired. Okay?
Griffin Holbrook : 'Cause of that Xeroxing thing?
Julia Salinger : No. No, because of you.
Griffin Holbrook : What? So you got fired from some lousy job you hated anyway. Big deal. You don't need to be working for that jerk.
Julia Salinger : I needed a recommendation from that jerk. I needed this job for college, and y-you ruined that for me. I am so tired of this stuff. I'm sorry, Griffin, but I am. I used to think it was cool, you know, the way that you would show up whenever you wanted and be aloof and create all these dramas. I used to think that that made you this really romantic guy.
Griffin Holbrook : What do you mean used to?
Julia Salinger : I love you, Griffin, but stuff has happened to me, and I am different now. And there are things that I want. Only you... You're just
[sighs]
Julia Salinger : You're just still hanging around. I mean, isn't there anything that you want?
Griffin Holbrook : I want you.
Julia Salinger : No. I mean, out of life.
Griffin Holbrook : Yeah. You.
Julia Salinger : That's not enough.

[Griffin is fixing Julia's car and she approaches him]
Julia Salinger : It's okay. I'm not gonna yell at you. I'm kind of tired of yelling at you.
Griffin Holbrook : Yeah, that's good, 'cause I'm kind of tired of you yelling at me.
Julia Salinger : So anyways, I... I saw some stuff in the paper that doesn't look too bad. There's a messenger job downtown, so you could ride your bike all day, and there's a storage place that's looking for a live-in manager, so
Griffin Holbrook : I've, uh... Yeah, sort of got that covered.
Julia Salinger : Oh, you do? That's-- That's great.
Griffin Holbrook : Yeah. That buddy of mine, uh, made a few phone calls, and, uh, I'm gonna catch up with the boat down in San Diego.
Julia Salinger : [surprised] Wait, uh, you're gonna leave?
Griffin Holbrook : Yeah. I-I've just been thinking about what you told me about needing something else in my life that matters to me.
Julia Salinger : Yeah, but I didn't say anything about leaving. Griffin, I-I thought we were gonna figure this out together. And now you're just... You're gonna run away?
Griffin Holbrook : I'm coming back. I mean, that's the whole point. It's just things are so screwy with us right now. It's kind of my fault. I mean, you're starting to hate me.
Julia Salinger : I don't hate you.
Griffin Holbrook : You know what I mean. I mean, that's exactly what I was afraid of, that I was gonna screw this up. If I keep hanging around here, it's only gonna get worse. So it's up to me. And I gotta do something about that. About me. That make sense?
Julia Salinger : [thinking] We do this a lot, huh?
Griffin Holbrook : Say goodbye?
Julia Salinger : Yeah. It's kind of weird.
Griffin Holbrook : Well, I fixed your mirror. The door still kind of sticks.
Julia Salinger : Well, I'll think about you every time I crawl across the front seat. And, um, you can fix it when you get back.

[Julia is solving a puzzle while Griffin reads the diary in the backyard]
Julia Salinger : Hm. Romantic rendezvous, five letters.
Griffin Holbrook : Uh, date? Hey, check it out. Camping in Big Sur. Just, you know, quit your job...
Julia Salinger : Apartments, jobs, in that order.
Griffin Holbrook : Yeah, yeah, yeah. It would have been nice, though, huh?
Julia Salinger : Yeah. Tryst. That's it. T-R-Y-S
Griffin Holbrook : Hey?
Julia Salinger : Hm? T.
[he starts tickling her and she laughs, while Claudia watches them]
Julia Salinger : No. No!
