"Mama Patty"
JordanThomasHall13 May 2020
Patty and Cathy's social studies teacher Mrs. Lomax (Pat Englund) outlines Korea and the inadequate care of orphans there. She announces a class project to adopt one of the orphans, Kim (Delfino De Arco). A $10 monthly sponsorship covers his care and a student will oversee the money collection, writing to him, and being his adoptive mother. Patty eagerly volunteers. She even gives the money her parents had given for clothes for Kim's clothes. Patty also takes a part-time job at the stationary store to send her entire salary to Kim. An impressed Martin matches it, and the others give from their allowance. She continually focuses her attention to Kim, owning that "her motherly instincts had never been aroused before." He writes to her as "Mama Patty" but soon stops writing to her. To her surprise, she opens the door to find Kim after having accidentally signed an application to officially adopt him. She struggles to teach him life skills vastly different from his foreign poverty. A clerical complication develops.

Not a realistic scenario, but there's some nice feeling from Patty.
