In his 1989 autobiography "It Would Be So Nice If You Weren't Here...", Charles Grodin reveals he found it difficult to push Pat Hingle around in a scene because Hingle had been recovering from a fall down an elevator shaft for a long time before acting in this television play. When director Ralph Nelson encouraged Grodin to be more aggressive, seemingly without any regard for Hingle's injury, Grodin repeated the action not with more force, but with an angry look on his face which was actually aimed at the director instead of Pat Hingle.
