Robert L. Joseph subsequently expanded his TV script into a Broadway play, which played to only 36 performances in New York in 1960. Jack Lemmon again played the lead, with Alexander Mackendrick directing (his only experience of directing for Broadway).
The script received on 23 October 1958 from Leo Burnett Co - LA, is stamped "Approval Deadline 03 November 1958; note: change of name "Edward R. Murrow" since Murrow did not agreed to lend his presence to a dramatic show."
