- After liberating POWs, the Rat Patrol must transport to safety surly Sgt. Gribs, who possesses key information about Nazi troop movements. Along for the trip are Tex and Eddie, two privates determined to kill their sergeant for cowardice.
- One of the episodes in which Capt. Hans Dietrich (Eric Braeden) does not appear, the story line of this episode concerns a recently liberated prisoner of war, the obnoxious and self-serving Sgt. Archie Gribs (Gavin MacLeod).
The Rat Patrol manages to ambush a German unit that is carrying American POWs, liberating three, Gribs and two privates, Tex (Richard Rust) and Eddie (John Clark). Complicating matters is the privates' wanting to kill Gribs, whom they despise for his general sleaziness and cowardice. Gribs claims to have vital information for the Allies (which he claims to have overheard from a guard at the POW camp) regarding Nazi movements. He does so to ensure protection for himself from Tex and Eddie.
Sergeant Troy (Christopher George) must deal with all of this while transporting Gribs back to headquarters. Troy tries to extract the information but Gribs' recalcitrance is formidable, parceling out only small hints to keep himself safe. By the end of the episode it is proved that Gribs' information was indeed valuable and he does give it up when the time proves ripe.
REVIEW: A (much) lesser episode, with uninteresting and dislikable guests. Also, the last minute/end of the episode military assault by the seven man Rat Patrol/POW group -- who were close to dead from thirst a few minutes earlier -- on a much larger-sized contingent of the enemy is quite hard to swallow. The acting is OK but Dietrich's absence deprives the episode of much needed immediate malevolence. MacLeod is convincing as the universally despised Gribs.
