For the 8th season which didn't have a full run, Eric Fleming had left and Clint Eastwood was the new trail boss. The only others who returned are Paul Brinegar and Steve Raines. Two new regulars David Watson from the United Kingdom and Raymond St.Jacques signed on as drovers.
Watson and another man went to town to celebrate and Clint Eastwood goes after them and finds Watson the only survivor of a lynching party. When he and St.Jacques go to the town for medical assistance for Watson it's a mighty unfriendly place run by corrupt sheriff Simon Oakland and a real bottom feeding deputy Timothy Carey.
Carey may well have been the scariest man on the big and small screen and no exception here. When he's on the screen everyone else is crowded off. Carey and Eastwood never worked together on the big screen so the fight they have is somewhat historic.
The key to all this is a half crazed farmer Jeff Corey and his crippled son Peter Haskell. The climax between all parties is well staged.
