Illegal court martial
bkoganbing12 November 2016
What the army did in this Rawhide episode was quite illegal. A civilian who was accused of killing a military member not in the line of duty would have been entitled to a civil trial. But the army wanted to sweep this mess under the rug quickly.

Which is what happens to Eric Fleming as he drives his herd through a pass the army is about to dynamite to make a dam. But he also runs into Elizabeth McRae an old friend from the ante-Bellum south. She's now married to Captain John Anderson.

McRae is a flirtatious southern belle of the Scarlett O'Hara variety and her little whims and desires cause the death of Lieutenant Russell Arms when he's shot and Eric Fleming accused of the deed.

The general Kent Smith convenes a court martial and even with things stacked against him, Fleming brings out the truth.

This may be the only episode where Paul Brinegar's cooking is appreciated. Next to army rations his steaks taste like they came from Delmonico's and the army personnel talk and give enough leads to help the trail boss.

Illegal, but enjoyable.
