- Gil Favor: Now, we can't afford to give you no food, no horses, horses especially for a fairytale that's two hundred years old.
- Monty Fox: Ain't any of you looking for treasure? Ain't any of you looking for paradise?
- Rowdy Yates: I guess we all are. We ain't gonna find it out here, in the middle of nowhere.
- Gil Favor: Where're you from?
- Monty Fox: From the Promised Land, Mister. From the Promised Land.
- Joe Scarlet: He's a goner.
- Monty Fox: The rivers are gold, jade, and amethyst! My eyes been blinded by a golden land! Gold blazing like the Sun! Gold, yellow like the fires!
- Joe Scarlet: It's full of mysteries up there, stars, planets, comets.
- Jim Quince: Hey, that's right. The way I heard of this sort of thing ain't nothing. Yeah, no more than this.
- [He lets the dry dusty dirt fall down through his fingers]
- Jim Quince: Compared to those stars up there.
- Mushy: Well, what do you know!
- Joe Scarlet: Yep, makes a man feel small and strange.
- Wishbone: I know somebody else that's gonna feel small and strange if he doesn't come over here and help.
- Rowdy Yates: It's no good, is it? Even if you find the Quivira, it's no good to you at all.
- Sergeant Parker: You know it, and I know it, Mister. There's no Quivira. It's just a dream. Something to blot out a life that might have been.
- Rowdy Yates: You're buried live up here. You may be able to pass sentence on us, but what about your boy? What about your son? What right have you got to bury him up here with the rest of the people?
- Sergeant Parker: Maybe you found Quivira, old man. Maybe you just walked through them pearly gates. I only wish you could open the lock for me.
- Wishbone: A sheephead, a simple-minded plain little sheephead. That's what Mushy is. People like that you gotta lead 'em by the hand. So you look good for him now. What I mean is, I don't want anything to happen to him.
