A most wanted man

Zachary Scott plays a half breed Kiowa chief who is dying and is sprung from an army prison to go back to his people. When he was active Scott was known as a bloodthirsty warrior and the army is afraid he'll inspire the Kiowa to go back on the warpath.

A young Kiowa warrior with ambitions Leonard Nimoy is hoping for a signal for war. In fact he's grabbed Clint Eastwood and Sheb Woolley from the passing cattle drive to insure Scott's safe return.

Robert Armstrong who is a rich rancher is looking for a little personal vengeance from Scott for having led a raid that left his wife Cathy Downs with disfigurement burns. This is all on top of the army looking for Scott.

This is a most ticklish situation for Eric Fleming who only wants to get Rowdy and Pete back. Some fine performances by the guest cast most especially Zachary Scott.

Leonard Nimoy and Robert Armstrong

"Incident Before Black Pass" centers on the dying Kiowa chief White Eyes (Zachary Scott), so named because he is half caucasian, who seeks refuge among Gil Favor's cattle drovers by holding hostage both Rowdy (Clint Eastwood) and Pete (Sheb Wooley). Lt. Meadows (Robert Sampson) isn't the only one tracking White Eyes, for an aging rancher (Robert Armstrong) desires revenge on behalf of his scarred wife (Cathy Downs). Best of all is 30 year old Leonard Nimoy, who demonstrates his versatility as Anko, whose lack of wisdom leads him to forego peace by leading his tribe against the white men. It's a fine showcase for Nimoy, who that year did an episode of GUNSMOKE ("A Man a Day"), three years before beginning his TREK as Mr. Spock. The 71 year old Robert Armstrong, best remembered for 1933's "King Kong," would retire by 1965. The actor playing Satanga was Dennis Cross, previously seen as a vengeful Indian on WANTED: DEAD OR ALIVE "The Bounty," and also the father of retired NFL lineman Randy Cross.
