"Rawhide" Incident of the Fish Out of Water (TV Episode 1961) Poster

Eric Fleming: Gil Favor

Quotes

  • Gil Favor : [to the girls]  Just remember - no matter how long it is, or how far apart we are, when you love someone, you're always with them.

  • Maggie Favor : [from her perch in a tree]  Oh! You're not allowed in the front way. If you're selling something you have to go to the kitchen door. My Aunt Eleanor says so.

    Gil Favor : Maggie?

Maggie Favor : My name is Margaret. My Aunt Eleanor doesn't like anybody to call me Maggie.

Gil Favor : I've always called you that. You don't remember me? Huh?

Maggie Favor : No. And my Aunt Eleanor says I should never talk to strangers.

Gil Favor : She's absolutely right. But I'm not exactly a stranger. Honest. I'm your father.

  • Ogalla : Thank you. I am grateful for your acceptance. To travel to strange, far places is difficult when one is without his loved ones.

Gil Favor : Yes, I know what you mean.

  • Gil Favor : Oh, you're crazy, what do you know about taking care of little girls?

Wishbone : It can't be any rougher than riding herd on a bunch of beeves.

  • Gil Favor : Why should she be afraid of me? I'm her father.

Eleanor Bradley : In name only. It's been more than two years. You're a stranger now.

Gil Favor : I've kept in touch.

Eleanor Bradley : All the letters and presents in the world won't make up for the one goodnight kiss.

Gil Favor : What are you trying to say?

Eleanor Bradley : You have to decide, Gil. To be a real father, or someone who just brings presents.

  • Eleanor Bradley : Nothing's wrong? She might have been killed. Come on, darling, I'll take you back.

Gil Favor : Not yet. The dog just frightened the horse and made him shy. She dropped the reins. The horse didn't know what to do, nobody was giving him any orders so he just went off on his own.

Eleanor Bradley : Please Gil, this is no time for.

Gil Favor : Please Eleanor. A horse needs a firm hand. There's nothing to be frightened of as long as you've got control of it. You understand that? Let's finish our ride then.

  • Gil Favor : Oh, Wish, would you pound some sense into him?

Wishbone : Well, it don't seem right to leave him there if we can help him.

Pete Nolan : And we can!

Gil Favor : Oh sure! Gun your way in and burst him out? Can't you get in through your thick heads, this isn't Texas, it's Phil-a-del-phia!

Pete Nolan : And you're beginning to fit in pretty good. It's maybe just as well you're staying here, because I never want to work for you again!

  • Ogalla : You too have come to laugh and mock.

Gil Favor : I just want to get things straight. On the train you said you were going to be in the show. Is this what you meant?

Ogalla : To be treated like an animal, to stand in shame before the whites, to bring disgrace upon myself and my people, I would rather have been dragged by wild horses.

Pete Nolan : Well, what do you do it for?

Ogalla : Colonel Summers says this is what the people of the East believe a Pawnee to be. This is what they wish to see.

Gil Favor : You didn't have to go along with it.

Ogalla : Colonel Summers has many men. I am but one. These

    [the shackles]

Ogalla : are not only for the show.

  • Gillian Favor : Oh, they went to see a sick friend.

    Gil Favor : Sick friend?

Gillian Favor : But they didn't want you to worry.

Maggie Favor : And you don't have to, Daddy. They'll be all right. Pete took his gun with him.
