- Gil Favor: A human bein' can take a lot of punishment. You find that out real quick when you drive cattle. You head along a thousand miles of dust, you cuss the day that man ever decided to eat beef. We're tryin' to bring it to the market: Sedalia, Missouri. We don't always like what we have to do to get there. But that's part of my job. My name's Gil Favor, trail boss.
- Gil Favor: It's getting worse every minute. It's getting so bad I can't keep rack any more. How many beeves is it you figure have been cut down all told in the past two days, Quince?
- Jim Quince: Nearly twenty, Boss. They ain't even afraid of fires any more. We need wolvers and traps, Mr Favor.
- Gil Favor: What do you think I sent Pete into town for?
- Pete Nolan: When I first came home from the war, and they told me they'd run off with some fella from the travelling show. I started lookin' for you. Five years I looked for you, Nora. Everywhere I been, I been looking, hoping I'd see you.
- Nora Sage: How long did you expect me to wait?
- Pete Nolan: Well, I didn't expect to find you in a town like this.
- Nora Sage: Well, where did you expect to find me? In Washington DC, the President's Lady?
- Brad Morgan: We'll get married in Tuscon.
- Madrina Wilcox: We'll do it!
- Brad Morgan: Get packed.
- Madrina Wilcox: Oh, no, I don't want anything from here. I don't want anything of the past. I want everything new.
- Brad Morgan: All right. Then let's get out of here now.
- Madrina Wilcox: Just this clock, Poppa's clock. Paula? We can't just leave her things. Where did you say she's heading?
- Brad Morgan: Dallas. She said Dallas.
- Madrina Wilcox: Dallas?
- Brad Morgan: That's where she said she was going.
- Madrina Wilcox: She hated Dallas. Honey, I'm scared. Something's wrong, I just feel it.
- Rowdy Yates: What I don't see is a decent girl like that got mixed up with Morgan anyway.
- Pete Nolan: One of these days, Rowdy, I'll tell you all about a decent girl I knew.
- Joe Scarlet: We'll be married.
- Nora Sage: You mean it? This time you mean it?
- Joe Scarlet: What do you mean: this time I mean it? I always mean it. This time we'll do it. That's the prettiest do-dad I've ever seen.
- [He moves in for a kiss, and his fingers tighten on her neckline]
- Gil Favor: Where do you want the traps?
- Joe Scarlet: Run 'em downwind, far into the wind southside.
- Gil Favor: If the wind shifts?
- Joe Scarlet: Move the cattle.
- Rowdy Yates: What are you doing with Paula, Brad?
- Joe Scarlet: Don't you trust me, Madrina? Don't you trust me a little bit? You wanna know why I went into town?
- Rowdy Yates: Don't fool with me, Brad.
- Joe Scarlet: I went in to take care of something for us.
- Rowdy Yates: For us?
- Joe Scarlet: Yes, I'll tell you later.
- Drover: Since when is a dirty wolver like you giving orders to a lady to stay away from us?
- Brad Morgan: Since I don't like wind bellies who ain't got more brains than a punch beef talking to friends of mine.
- Brad Morgan: You and I are through, sweetheart.
- Paula Wilcox: No, no, we're not. And you're not going to marry Madrina either.
- Brad Morgan: I'm not?
- Paula Wilcox: No, not if I tell 'em I was with you every minute in town and I never saw you go near any pedlar. Don't worry about them, they're all sleeping. Put your arms around me.
- [And her fate is sealed]
- Rowdy Yates: Ah, I guess I was talking out of line last night back up there.
- Gil Favor: When a man's learning, he usually does.
- Rick: Where'd you get that necklace, Miss Wilcox?
- Madrina Wilcox: Why?
- Rick: I saw Lily Torrence wearing it just yesterday.
- Marshal McVie: Where'd you get it, Miss Madrina?
- Madrina Wilcox: I gave it to her, Marshal. I bought it from a pedlar in town. What are you boys trying to do? Make trouble for me?
- Rick: Heck, Brad, you're too good a poker loser.
- Bailey: We hang you, how we gonna find another sucker?
- Madrina Wilcox: That's not funny.
- Brad Morgan: I bought it from a pedlar in town with a high silk hat and a black goatee. Was selling them to everybody, said they were gold. I believed 'cos he had a face as honest as the day is long.
