Real life mother and daughter Jean Engstrom and Jena Engstrom with Doug Lambert as a son and brother are trying to flee from the immediate world when
the Gil Favor cattle drive comes upon them. The elder Engstrom is deathly ill
in the back of their wagon and Eric Fleming sends for a doctor in the nearest
town.
But civilization is what this family is trying to avoid even at the cost of Engstrom's life. They're fleeing sheriff's posse, bounty hunters and the family patriarch outlaw Claude Akins.
Some loose ends in the plot, but overall a tragic story of an outlaw family. The future Festus Haggen on Gunsmoke plays a bounty hunter. Akins himself is a tragic figure.
