While Eric Fleming is away Clint Eastwood is in charge of the herd and he's
driving it through country infested with packs of wolves. The drovers come
across a family of wolvers headed by Dan Duryea and children Patty McCormack, Jack Grinnage, and Paul Carr. Even though they're contracted by
the army to hunt the wolves, Duryea manages to squeeze more out of Eastwood for the same service. Quite frankly it was extortion.
The kids can't read or write and Duryea likes it that way to keep them tied to him. McCormack's desire to read and Eastwood teaching her the alphabet is the beginning of real trouble.
Duryea delivers a fine performance as the tyrannical father matched by McCormack as the eager girl on the edge of womanhood.
For Dan Duryea's legion of fans.
