- Hap Johnson: Well, that settles it, Tooky boy. I'll see you in Tahiti.
- Tooky: You really leaving, Hap?
- Hap Johnson: You betcha I am. You can have my share of Comanche and my compliments too.
- Rowdy Yates: [Ellie and Rowdy are listening to the telegraph pole] Talkin' wires, they call them. Listen, you can hear 'em again. Hear the dot dashes.
- Ellie Kurtz: Wonder what they say.
- Rowdy Yates: Yeah, probably takin' about some General's bunions, I suppose.
- Hap Johnson: Mr Watson, just between two fine gentlemen, you ain't nothing but an out and out thief.
- Coats Watson: Who's trying to sell stolen Army goods? I'm taking a big chance just keeping it on my premises. If you don't like the offer, you can go to the next place, and I reckon you know how far that is.
- Hap Johnson: Fella sold it to me so it's all legal like.
- Wishbone: Oh, I bet.
- Hap Johnson: Aw, now, Wish, do you doubt my veracity?
- Wishbone: Yes, I do. I been thinking, Mr Johnson, I don't remember you back in Nacogdoches, and I don't think you remember me. I don't know what your game is but I don't like the smell of it. So I'm not gonna do any kind of business with you.
- Gil Favor: Nobody can depend on a Winter Soldier, 'cos he just out for himself. When you need him, he never there.
- Gil Favor: You take over the herd. Your main problem will be to keep 'em from running. They got the smell of water now.
- Pete Nolan: Don't you worry about it, Boss.
- Gil Favor: If they go, just try to keep them from killing each other. And don't let 'em run all the fat off.
- Pete Nolan: I'll manage.
- Ellie Kurtz: We're just lucky, I guess.
- Hap Johnson: How's that?
- Ellie Kurtz: Well, we haven't come across any dishonest men, like I thought you was when I first saw you. But you're nice, almost as nice as Rowdy.
- [But Hap is not]
- Hap Johnson: O, that Rowdy fella was surely right about you.
- Ellie Kurtz: What'd he say?
- Hap Johnson: Why, just that you were the prettiest thing west of New York.
- Ellie Kurtz: Honest?
- Hap Johnson: You betcha. And I'd put it a little further my own self. Maybe even Paris or France or somewhere's like that.
- Hap Johnson: Dreaming's all right. Just so's you don't use it to run away with. You always got to remember what's real. And what's important. Why, you got to appreciate what you got.
- Ellie Kurtz: What I got?
- Hap Johnson: Why, you got life. Ain't no use to be worrying about dying. Not now, not never. There's time enough for that when it happens.
- Hap Johnson: Just 'cos I don't want to spend all my days in an Army barracks, don't make no criminal.
- Rowdy Yates: Well, it won't be long for you the way you're going. You won't amount to anything.
