The episode begins with a cold opening of Lister recapping previous events on a video camera, the battle with their future selves has caused time anomalies, and now the present Starbug crew has returned them to the period before they found the time drive, the mangled time-paradox talk destroys the camera, Kryten comes along and suggests Lister just state their position and report a supply emergency.
Lister receives news that all the curry and lager supplies were destroyed in the battle, no debris to speak of. Lister is in shock. In the cockpit Lister tells the others of a time when he drank a yard of vindaloo sauce. Kryten reports time anomalies have expanded the ship's lower levels, down in the lower levels the space has grown considerably, the crew makes the decision not to pick up the time drive and potentially turn into their future selves, Lister however wants to use it to travel to Earth and pick up some curry supplies, a decision that all the others consider foolish.
After inspecting the lower levels Kryten requests down time to clear out his RAM, Lister asks how the process works, the RAM is in Kryten's head, Lister has an ulterior motive, in the middle of the night he sneaks into Kryten's room and detaches his head, replacing it with spare head 2, he asks spare head 2's help in getting the time drive and getting the curry replenished, spare head 2 Kryten accepts and asks for his guilt chip to be removed.
In the morning Kryten has made breakfast and is acting strangely, stirring the tea with his groinal attachment, Lister and Kryten have agreed to find the time drive and use it, Kryten lights a cigarette and Lister takes him for a private word, reminding him he has no behavioral protocols and he should watch what he does when the others are watching.
The Dwarfers board the Gemini 12 and find the time drive, spare head 2 hasn't used it before and types in the wrong coordinates, landing them in Dallas November 22nd, 1963, where Lee Harvey Oswald is about shoot President Kennedy, Lister bumps into Oswald sending him out the window, it takes a while for the crew to realize where they are and what should be happening, Oswald climbs in the opposite window with some electric cables from outside, Lister sees the cable and pulls it, pulling Oswald out of the window to the street below, the Dwarfers see him on the street and Cat finds his rifle, an FBI agent and a police officer rush in and draw their guns on the Dwarfers, Kryten taps an escape on the drive and they teleport out.
They land in the same location in 1966, Cat sees the outside is deserted, the Dwarfers look around outside and find the body of a man named Eric White, apparently killed in a stampede, Kryten finds a newspaper on his person and relays the results on his chest monitor, the consequences of their actions are played out, Kennedy was impeached in 1964 for sharing a mistress with Mafia boss Sam Giancana, Kennedy was sentenced to an open prison for three years in 1965, the FBI director J. Edgar Hoover became President, blackmailed by the Mafia to do so, the Soviet Union successfully installs a nuclear missile base in Cuba in exchange for Mafia cocaine trafficking between Cuba and America, many people fled from the major cities in case of a nuclear strike.
The Dwarfers can't head back to Starbug as it doesn't exist, Kennedy's impeachment slowed the American tech race ensuring the Soviets landed on the moon, Rimmer asks Kryten how could he forget the implications of time travel, Kryten says he didn't care as he has no guilt, Lister comes clean about his "adjustments" to Kryten, Rimmer calls Lister out on his actions potentially dooming the world. The time drive has broken, the Dwarfers make camp until fixed, Kryten is sent to bring food, by night they're sat around a campfire, Lister and Cat are enjoying what they think is chicken, it's actually Eric, a result of Kryten's lack of behavior protocols. The time drive is fixed, it's clear they have to let the assassination happen, they travel to 1963 to the fifth floor of the Texas Book Depository under the guise of decorators and direct Oswald up to the sixth floor, Oswald shoots but the trajectory only wounds Kennedy, Lister deduces that they'll need a second gunman to fire from the grassy knoll, he has the very person.
He takes them to 1965 when Kennedy is being taken to prison, he boards the truck and speaks with Kennedy, convincing him to be the gunman on the knoll, back in '63 Kennedy and the others are in disguise where Kennedy delivers the fatal bullet to himself and thanks the others before fading away. Lister realizes he forgot ask if there are any Indian restaurants in Dallas and the other beat him up because this selfish was the cause of the trouble.
Three weeks later on Starbug, Rimmer and Kryten are checking the volt meters when Lister tells them of a stunning revelation he had, there was no debris when the curry supplies were destroyed, they weren't there at the time, he used the time drive to rescue them and bring them to the present, Lister uses the time drive to do this. The cargo hold is filled with the curry and lager supplies, as they all got to leave Rimmer walks past a wall lever which he says he's never used and doesn't know what it's for, Lister pulls it out of curiosity, sealing him in the cargo hold, Rimmer had been planning that for a long time, the hold is jettisoned from the rest of Starbug and the rest of the craft flies off leaving Lister with all his curry.
