THE RIFLEMAN – A Time for Singing - 1960
This is the 64th episode from the 1958 to 1963 western series, THE RIFLEMAN. Over the course of 168 episodes we follow the life of Lucas McCain and his son, Mark. They have moved to the small western town of North Fork where they hope to start a new life. Chuck Connors headlines the series with Johnny Crawford as his son. Connors is a world class hand with a Winchester rifle which of course ends up getting him in no end of trouble.
North Fork is getting ready to greet the just arrived new preacher and his wife. The man, Robert Knapp seems a right nice fellow, and his wife, Patricia Barry, is a real looker. The couple are escorted out to a small house set aside for the preacher. Everyone plans on seeing the preacher at work the next day at the Sunday meeting.
After everyone has cleared off, the couple are joined by Chris Alcaide and Robert Osterloh. It seems that the bunch, are really bank robbers. They had come across the real preacher and his wife on the trail some days before. They had murdered the pair and came to North Fork to rob the local bank. The cover of preacher and wife seemed a perfect disguise.
There is however trouble in the ranks of the gang. Miss Barry is really married to gang leader, Alcaide. But she has been stepping out behind his back with the fake reverend, Knapp.
Anyways, Chuck Connors' son, Johnny Crawford stumbles onto the gang while delivering a welcoming basket to the house. The gang puts the bag on Crawford and tie him up in the barn. Needless to say Connors comes a calling when Crawford fails to return.
The gang's plans all go for naught, as Connors finds his son who informs him of the robber's plans. This causes more than a few rounds to be exchanged between Connors and the not so nice crowd. The villains are soon dispatched and ready for Boot Hill.
This is an okay episode, but not really anything special.
