Ken O'Dell manages the Mineral City Wells Fargo office while his brother Hal is the leader of an outlaw gang. Hal stays away from Mineral City because of that, but the other gang members aren't so particular. They knock Hal out and go to Mineral City after dark. Ken opens the door because they say Hal is badly sick, but then they rob the place. The sheriff arrests Ken for being in on the robbery, but Roy is sure he wasn't. From the boys' dad, Roy learns where the hideout could be, and he and Pat investigate. The big question is, what will Hal do now that his gang has deserted him?
Reed Howes plays the sheriff in this episode. He was nine episodes altogether in different seasons, always playing the sheriff. Reed was a
popular leading man in the silent movie days, but couldn't make the transition to talkies. He was relegated to small, often uncredited roles, often in westerns. Reed Howes had a long career but his high point was definitely in the silent era. His Roy Rogers sheriff roles were among the best he had late in his career.
