Allusions to the play "Othello": Peter Wyngarde plays his character Turen in blackface, and Turen suspects the loyalty of his beautiful wife, at one point trying to strangle her when she lies on a bed. The connection is made even more explicit when at one point Turen looks at her and quotes one of Othello's lines from the play: "Perdition catch my soul, but I do love thee."
Peter Wyngarde hated the episode so much that he never watched it. He recalled on A Brave New World in The 60s (2015) that he was against the idea of blacking up from the beginning, but he finally relented because he thought it might lead to him playing Othello.
