Nigel Davenport, an excellent actor, plays a man trying to abscond with a quarter of a million pounds (big money in those days). All he has to do is induce a heart attack and die.
Leslie Charteris occasionally skated on the borders of science fiction with some Saint stories. Is this one of them? This episode has surprising twists.
The girl, Stephanie Randall (and it wouldn't hardly be the Saint without Simon Templar coming chivalrously to a damsel's aid) is an actress who vanished after her turn as the tearful maid in "The Prisoner" ("Prisoner" fans will know the one). She's a tad too shrill for my taste. And there's a stereotypical German doctor with a gated "clinic" and a burly blonde assistant.
So, what happened to the money? Until the final act, we wonder which way it's going to go.
A good episode climaxing with a violent train fight and Simon Templar as superhero, but that's Charteris' fault. He made Templar preternaturally strong. All the clever plot twistiness is frontloaded and the last half is all brute force. Good stuff.
