According to Bob Tischler in the book "Live from New York: An Uncensored History of Saturday Night Live", Joe Piscopo was very protective about is portrayal of Frank Sinatra, which he saw more as a tribute than a parody. When Barry W. Blaustein and David Sheffield wrote the 'Ebony and Ivory' sketch, it originally began with Frank waiting for Stevie Wonder in the studio. But Piscopo felt that "Frank wouldn't wait for Stevie, Stevie would have to wait for Frank" and insisted in doing it his way.
