Lee's old lover
aramis-112-8048809 January 2023
Oscar winner George Chakiris is an Italian defector from the USSR who believes his wife was shot by the KGB in the Lubyanka prison. When she shows up he's overjoyed. Then Amanda learns the wife, Eva, was once Lee's lover. And she wonders: what is Eva's dark secret? Is it that she and Lee are still an item?

Underutilized is the idea that Chakiris is playing an ESP researcher. Well, he didn't see any of this coming.

Francine is the one who brings Amanda in this time: since she's ordinary she can help him get a library card &c.

Not a lot of humor in this episode, but it is important to remember just what the KGB was, as we need to recall what the Stasi in East Germany was. They were the true neo-Nazis (National SOCIALISTS) and we need to recall what Socialism and Communism and a national police force of any kind lead to.

The Soviet Union is gone but its leaders were never put to the end of ropes like Nazi leaders were, and the spectre of Soviet socialism still haunts Europe and the world. Nobody makes movies about the evils of the USSR like they do their erstwhile World War II allies the Nazis, probably because the Nazis look ridiculous while the brutal Soviets just killed people without silly flags and uniforms and goose-stepping, and because of the effective way the international left has convinced us the German socialists were of the right, but we need to study the KGB and the Soviet Union to keep their horror from happening again.
