Although this episode is listed in the official order as episode 36, it is actually the pilot episode. Its proper order is revealed through Garry Pankhurst appearing noticeably younger, and the closing credits being shown on a different backdrop - the Ranger Headquarters set seen as the more familiar backdrop had not yet been built at the time of this episode's filming. The official order contains some other anomalies - Dr. Stark is mentioned in episode 1, Poachers (1968), before he is introduced in episode 4, Long Way Home (1968), Dr. Anna Steiner is mentioned in episode 2, Sports Car Rally (1968), before she is introduced in episode 5, Cage of Koalas (1968), and Clancy is mentioned in episode 2 and appears in episode 6, The Lyre Bird (1968), before she is introduced in episode 9, No Time for Clancy (1968). It is difficult to find a "proper" running order without anomalies, although the opening and closing credits can provide some clues to a framework. For example, the first few episodes do not have their titles appear on screen, early episodes have a text-only credit for the National Parks and Wildlife Service of New South Wales (and also credit the Ku-Ring-Gai Chase Trust), while later episodes show a graphic NPWS logo, and the first episodes of the second season have the same opening titles as the first season.
