The artist's guild is furious when Baglione, the Captain-General of de Medici's guard, hires a Venician to paint his lovely daughter's portrait. When Marco learns that the young woman plans to elope with the painter, he decides to assist the lovers to flee Florence in order to embarrass Baglione, until he learns of plans to steal the young woman's jewels and murder murder her once they are outside the city walls.
