Wells Fargo policy states that they'll ship just about anything, and Jim Hardie finds just how true this policy is when he discovers one piece of overland freight is a baby girl. The child's mother was killed and her father is shipping her to her grandparents. But the stage to Fort Laramie is carrying dangerous cargo - $20,000 in gold and a disgraced army officer, Major Dennis Keel, and his escort, Capt. Oliver Maynard, en route to a court martial hearing. Hardie is well aware he's not only protecting the gold and the baby, the Cheyenne want Major Keel, who wiped out an entire Cheyenne settlement in cold blood. When thieves waylay Hardie and company in a Wells Fargo waystation, the entire group soon finds themselves trapped when The Cheyenne chief, Long Knife, orders his braves to attack.

This is one of the best episodes of the series. It has an excellent cast, copious amounts of action, and a great script from writer Samuel A. Peeples, who wrote the 2nd Star Trek:TOS pilot, Where No Man Has Gone Before. Veteran direct Earl Bellamy helms the episode, and it's one of his best. Hardie finds there is a lot more to outlaw Comanche Stelman than meets the eye. The man has a complicated past, and there was a time when he had a family, but he tells Hardie they died during Sherman's march to the sea, when his wife ran into a burning house to rescue their baby daughter. That sentiment plays out in the final resolution of the episode, and it's a good twist.

The cast is great, with several familiar faces from the era. Ken Mayer appears as Comanche Stelman. Mayer was a busy guest star in multiple episodes of pretty much every western during the era, with 13 appearances on Gunsmoke, 12 on Bonanza, and 14 on Death Valley Days. Rachel Ames appeared as Maude Kimball. If you're a fan of General Hospital then you know her, as she appeared in 979 episodes as Nurse Audrey Hardey. Robert Lowery appeared as Maj. Keel. He was another busy actor on the small screen, but he appeared in pictures as early as the 30s and 40s, such as Drums Across the Mohawk and The Mummy's Curse. Bing Russell would be the best known actor in the episode, not only from his extended list of credits but also as Kurt Russell's father.

As I said, this is one of the best episodes of the series and is absolutely not to be missed!
