"Friendship is one thing, but business is business."
classicsoncall19 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
First off, the premise here of killing a person in an adulterous relationship with one's spouse and getting off with a hundred dollar misdemeanor fine is highly suspect. I tried looking it up, but the Delaware Code on Domestic Relations runs a hundred fifty one pages, so if you're that curious, have at it. Because the series is called 'Tales of the Unexpected', I had the nagging suspicion that Harry (Robert Loggia) was going to do an about face when he walked in on his wife (Susan Strasberg) and business partner Marv Castlemore (Tom Smothers). With that ending to the story, the whole idea of Harry and Marv's partnership insurance paying off went right out the window. The problem with stories like this is that they leave you hanging with an apparent outcome dictated by the story line, but Harry would have had a hard time explaining why Roberta died of a gunshot. If Harry was counting on double indemnity, he probably should have consulted Hitchcock.

Good fun at last.

Warning: Spoilers
Harry seems to have got it wrong from a business point of view, together with business partner and designer Marvin the pair run a business designing and manufacturing ladies' fashions. Marvin has made the dresses too short, $200,000 dollars down the drain. Marvin admits he's got it wrong, and virtually sunk the pair. Harry's wife has a trust fund, but he cannot get to it. Harry talks to his wife, and tells her that the only way out seems to be an insurance fund on Marvin, 'The perfect murder.' Harry likes living in Wilmington, and doesn't want to give it up. Harry concocts a plan involving Marvin and his wife, to cash in on Marvin's insurance money.

Now I am a fan of the late Robert Loggia, he puts in a rather fun performance as Harry. An actor with loads of charm, and a surprising amount of black humour. He makes the episode rather watchable.

Now I have been hyper critical of the recent batch of tawdry episodes, but 'I like it here in Wilmington,' is quite fun, it's better made, a bit more intriguing, all in all, just better then the latest offerings. The twist is one that I didn't see coming, a bit more imagination was used.

Tour de Loggia!
squaremilenews28 March 2021
This is a stand-out, star-studded episode, adding some much-needed quality to Series 7.

Yes, it is one of the 'American ones' which have been patchy at best, but this frantic, almost farcical black comedy deserves a much higher rating than it has here at imdb.

We have a Tour de force from Robert Loggia (Scarface), who dominates the entire story with a completely overbearing personality and Tom Smothers (of comedy act Smothers Brothers fame) as his reserved and quieter business partner.

Loggia is a garment company boss and his gorgeous wife is played by Susan Strasberg (daughter of legendary Actors Studio founder Lee Strasberg, the guru of The Method).

The performances carry the story, rather than the other way around and yes we have a genuine twist at the conclusion.

Recommended.
