A family gathers for the death of the father. Tight script by Coronation Street writer, first class cast act it out impeccably. No frills, just excellent drama. 30 Minute Theatre encouraged writers in an era that believed in authorship and drama and generally maintained a very high standard as well as attracting some of the best and often most exciting emergent actors. Innes Lloyd was the main producer of the strand which accounted for the quality of the series as he knew his writers and his actors so well and given that all the early plays were performed live makes the achievement even more remarkable. ITV tried a copy cat series but it fell well short of the BBC's strand. Looking back it is quite astonishing when you see the roll call of the writers who contributed to this series as well as a the full length dramas of Play for Today and The Wednesday Play. And how sad that so few survived for posterity to enjoy.
