THIS MAN DAWSON – The Bank Robbers – 1960 This is episode 33 of the 1959-60 Police series, THIS MAN DAWSON. The series ran for a total of 39 episodes. Keith Andes headlines the series about an Ex-Military Officer hired to run a big city Police Department. The city is never named. Each episode starts and finishes with William Conrad doing the narration of the night's story.
Three men do an early morning bank holdup and kill the guard during their escape. They speed off to a parking lot where they have another car stashed. They intend to switch cars and continue to their hideout. They encounter a slight problem though. A City Policeman is at the location writing tickets for illegally parked automobiles.
The crooks roll in, see the cop, and open fire. The cop is fatally shot before he can draw his own weapon. The crooks change cars and hightail it to the hideout so they can split up the take. The dead officer is soon found and the Police go into overdrive to find his killers.
Police Chief Keith Andes calls out every spare body to help out. They have a solid lead as the dead officer had a list of licence plate numbers for the tickets he issued. They quickly trace one plate to a known lowlife.
The Police soon come a calling and quickly collar the one thug. The other two leg it on foot. They are ran to ground sharpish like and take refuge in an old folks home. They demand a car with a full tank or they will start sending out bodies. Chief Andes comes up with a plan to gain entry. He pretends to be the man they collared minutes before. The two in the old folk's home fall for the gag and are quickly added to the arrest list.
This is an excellent episode which makes very good use of several low rent areas of Los Angeles, to fill in for the unnamed city of the series.
