Chrissy doing the Charleston
Yeah, were it not for long-legged Chrissy sans bra doing the Charleston I would not even have bothered singling this kinda-creepy episode out. Yeah, that blind guy didn't fit in with the aura of the show. But Chrissy doing the Charleston... I just thought about contemporary Catherine Bach of THE DUKES OF HAZZARD... million dollar insurance! Gee, here's another one... Er, pair.

I see that the other reviewer mentions the term Jiggle TV. I would just like to say that I think that Chrissy Snow is the sweetest, most darling, absolutely cute little creature that lived. Thank you for existing. Unfortunately we didn't even have TV back then, not in my area. I'm a South African. But had I known about her, back then, I'd have been one of those gaga little schoolboys... Carrying Chrissy Snow in my heart forever.

Thank you Suzanne for having been a perfect example of everything great during the good old good old days.

. Remember.

"Eat your salad before it gets cold."

Warning: Spoilers
Jack, Janet, and Chrissy learn that Stanley is seriously considering raising their rent, due to (as Stanley claims) rising costs. They can't afford this, so their solution is to wine and dine Stanley & Helen and suck up to him. You guessed it: an unforeseen circumstance develops, in the form of the arrival of Jim Walsh (David Dukes), an acquaintance from Jacks' Navy days. Jim has always been a major jerk, and still acts that way even though he is now blind. He slugs Jack after a long-ago perceived slight against him, and then after realizing he's mistaken, refuses to leave the apartment until Jack hits him back. In the meantime, Jim makes a total nuisance of himself.

Hardly Jacks' Navy "pal", Jim is a total piece of work, but Dukes, no stranger to unlikable roles (he'd previously played Ediths' rapist on an episode of 'All in the Family'), does seem to be having some fun here. In fact, he totally acts like he's in on the joke, smiling almost the entire time. I know some viewers dislike the fact that Jim ultimately receives zero comeuppance, but the scenario is so ridiculous that it's still worthy of some chuckles. (Jim gets right in Stanleys' face when the landlord attempts to eat the pork chops that Jack has prepared.) Jim ends up causing so much damage that, by the end, EVERYBODY else present ORDERS Jack to hit Jim!

Some bright spots in this amusing but daft script: the shapely Ms. Somers dancing the Charleston with Mr. Ritter, and the coda in which a hilariously-attired Jack (who's just attended a party with a "Roaring 20s" theme) is still suffering a sore jaw. Yet, of course, he's not averse to getting plenty of kisses from Janet & Chrissy.

Six out of 10.

Uncomfortable

Easily among the worst Three's Company episodes, this one is pretty difficult to watch. Jack's old navy tormentor shows up and is still just as much of a jerk except now he's blind! He hits Jack, wants Jack to hit him back and when Jack refuses, he starts trashing the place. Awesome. Of course, there's no satisfactory payoff and the jerk doesn't even get his just desserts at the end. Ugh.

The episode's one saving grace that keeps it from the absolute bottom of the barrel is a scene of Chrissy doing the Charleston sans-bra. One of the truly great moments in Jiggle TV history almost saves this one...almost.

Jack's Navy Pal (Official Review)

Warning: Spoilers
If this were an episode of Law and Order, it would be absolute gold. A drunken maniac committing assault and battery and vandalism. However, being that is is a sitcom, at any what point in this episode did you feel like laughing? 173 episodes but this one, the producers got it wrong. An old navy buddy of jack's shows up to even a score from long ago. Oh but wait, he's now a blind alcoholic with a cane and we're supposed to feel sorry for him?? Jack was slugged not once...but twice...hard in the face in this episode. Apparently in 1978, calling 911 to report a crime was not in place? As great as Three's Company was...this episode might be the worst of the worst ugh.

Episode Nine From Outer Space

Warning: Spoilers
Every TV show is entitled to one episode so insane, so bizarre, so inexplicably absurd and illogical that it defies all conventional logic. Welcome to "Jack's Navy Pal."

Okay, so "Three's Company" was never the thinking man's comedy, but this episode lowers the IQ level to new depths. Jack and the girls learn that Mr. Roper may be thinking of raising their rent, so they decide to schmooze him by making him dinner at their apartment. As you might have guessed, a blind alcoholic ex-Naval officer shows up and refuses to leave the house until Jack punches him in the face. (It's even more ludicrous than it sounds.)

Jack encourages Mr. Roper to simply ignore the blind alcoholic destroying the apartment and eat his steak- until the lunatic picks up said sirloin and flings it across the living room. Jack is helpless to defend himself and his home in spite of the fact that the man is BLIND and DRUNK- even the actor playing the role is laughing at the absurdity of the situation.

If you watch this episode bring a change of pants... you'll wet the first pair from laughing. They don't make 'em like this anymore... thank God!

This episode ranks as the lowest of the lows
BigWhiskers26 January 2016
I've watched all of the episodes multiple times with the exception of this one . Warranted there are other episodes that are crappy but this one is below even bottom feeder standards. I remember how seething I was after watching this episode back when it first aired. It wasn't even funny ,it was just mean and so loathing. A guy who was an abusive bully in the Navy is the focal point of my disgust over this episode ,he beat Jack up when Jack was in the Navy just because Jack said Hi to him . So now he's in town and somehow(it's never explained) he gets a hold of Jacks phone number and calls the apt . He gets Chrissy on the phone and tells her that he knew Jack in the Navy and wants to see Jack.So she unknowingly invites a total stranger over (surprise surprise) and when Jack finds out of course he is upset because the guy was a bully to him and others for no reason.

Jack gets bullied in other episodes too that I don't like but this one is the worst episode of a TV sitcom in my opinion. It makes no sense, a guy Jack barely knew in the Navy beats him up for no reason and then years later decides to do more of the same. The guy is still an abusive AH except now he's blind , so that's supposed to make us pity him? He asks Jack to hit him and when Jack wont ,the writers think it funny to let the guy trash the apt while everyone does nothing. I was so PO'ed by now. So eventually Mrs Roper screams "Hit Him" but rather than a satisfying payoff of the AH getting his just rewards. What do the writers do, they have the guy say "Jack if you're gonna hit me ,at least tell me which direction it's coming from " so he blocks Jacks punch and hits Jack across the face . I was like WTF? are you kidding me ? . I wanted to write the damn show and I should have even though I was only 14. I'd been bullied enough to know that a bullying AH wont change unless he gets tossed in jail or has his ass handed to him so he learns respect. Just because the guy was blind and adding pity to it was such BS by the writers, i would have had the girls beat him up including Mrs Roper who discovers that he's not totally blind and knocks him out with one punch

Worst 3's Company episode by far...
dellabrown6617 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I think most fans of this show will agree this episode is a tough watch. Imagine someone you barely knew from years ago and who hit you for saying hi popping up suddenly to punch you in the face again and trash your home. It's kind of a weird episode in that they try to squeeze in some comedy around a now blind boozer who beats people up. One of the funniest episodes is when Jack tries to get close to a girl by posing nude in her art class. The second he disrobes, Mr Furley walks in with a sketching pad haha. His reaction to a nude Jack is priceless. One of the portraits ends up on display at the Beagle.....priceless.
