In the tradition of classic Outer Limits episode Specimen Unknown, comes Voyage's more cartoon-ish take on the killer-orchid-from-space-theme. This orchid takes over Nelson with evil in mind.
My first viewing of Terror was in the mid-1980s and I hated the hour! I found it totally boring? Nearly 20 years later I gave it a second viewing and loved it! Perhaps this is why so many people hate the last two seasons of Voyage/Sea, viewers make just one screening of each episode not knowing that repeated viewings are required because Irwin television is not like other television, Irwin TV casts a spell on people, a spell demanding the viewer comes back for another screening. A bit like looking at a painting on the wall I guess? Strange.
Terror is another make-something-out-of-nothing hour. The story is nothing but the hour just goes from one fun bit to another fun bit and when you put those bits all together you get a classic!
Firstly, we see a Seaview seaman - played by Patrick Culliton - who went over well when playing a seaman in Voyage season one episode: No Way Out. It is fun seeing him all this time later in a key role at the start of the show. After this, the ray of light that goes from plant to human: Great flashy visual effect! Then, great acting from Basehart as he explains that the orchid comes from deep space and he says it in such a way that the viewer almost swallows the story. Great looking explosions in the hour. And finally, Crane gets bothered by "taken over" Nelson.
