Johnny volunteers every Wednesday at the Vine Street Mission, which suffered a fire last night destroying the kitchen to the tune of about $40,000 worth of damages. With federal funds having dried up, he goes on a campaign to raise whatever money he can both through on an air plea to his listeners, and in soliciting donations from his friends including those at the station. While Johnny is able to raise a few hundred dollars this morning, Jennifer believes she has all $40,000 sewn up in inviting a few of her wealthy and philanthropic friends over to her apartment this evening for a cocktail party, what she considers that social set's equivalent of a Tupperware party. Jennifer extends the invitation to her WKRP colleagues in a blanket "bring the gang" statement in wanting those organizing to meet those donating. While Jennifer's wealthy friends are more than happy to donate, things may go off the rails in the fundraising when Johnny shows up to the party with some of the mission's slightly off-kilter regulars, the two sides, especially Jennifer and Johnny themselves, who may not quite see eye to eye in what it means to donate to charity and what it means to be on the receiving end of charity.
