The More you know about Herb...

...the more you may come to understand what drives him as the oily,ego-maniacal goof.

Such is the case of this different episode, which is framed from the viewpoint of the fictional "Real People"-type show,"Real Families", which chooses to follow the life of everyone's favorite sleazy radio ad salesman. The hosts(Peter MArshall and DAphne Maxwell, later Reid)are first seemingly jovial hosts and curious interlopers, only to steadily turn into invasive, insensitive voyeurs. The hand-held camera shots and out-of-studio lighting are set in to take this away from the setting of the radio station and make this practically Herb and his family's show.

Great performances by Frank Bonner,Edie McClurg(as Herb's choicely oblivious wife)and even the kids(names escape me at the moment).fill out this episode, one of a number of highly unique shows which populated this fantastic TV series.

One of the funniest episodes ever

Warning: Spoilers
Perhaps it is just me,but this episode really tickled my funny-bone. Goofy Herb Tarlek and family win a 'prize' from an obnoxious and invasive 'real life' TV show! What prize is that? Well, the family gets to be the topic of the TV show, which means they will be filmed constantly for a week or so. It turns out to be very intrusive, and quite funny as the family tries very hard to put on a good show,(as the perfect family),which backfires spectacularly. The family is actually a very typical, everyday, average suburban family that is decent and good with a few quirks and oddities like all other families have. The situations and the small details of the show are hilarious, they are all very familiar and I am sure there are a lot of small things that I missed. This episode can only be funnier with more viewings I'm sure. I think you will enjoy it.

Dumbest idea yet.

Let's take a great ensemble comedy show and concentrate an entire episode on its most annoying character. Here's another awesome idea: let's have Johnny water ski jump over a shark tank! That would be awesome! Who writes this garbage?
