Dan Duryea was one of the most popular guest stars during the run of Wagon Train. He did several episodes, sad to say this one where he plays a crazy old jealous father isn't one of them.
I'm a bit surprised that they would even have a nut job like this one on the Train. His wife was supposedly struck by lightning years ago leaving Duryea to bring up their daughter Elen Willard. Now she has eyes for young settler James Drury and it is making him crazier than usual.
Despite that explanation I don't think that Duryea's psychosis was fully fleshed out. And why Willard stayed with him God only knows.
