- Angela DeVarga: It seems inconceivable to me that we should be so far apart, so completely unable to even communicate. Our language is different. But I have learnt yours. You can learn mine. Our customs, our daily lives are different. But surely these are inconsequential. We are warmed by the same sun. We look up at the same stars. And, no one, either you nor I can tell by the soil where America ends and Mexico begins. Are we then so far apart?
- Charlie Wooster: [after squirming around trying to get comfortable] You know, I'll never get used to riding inside one of these things. It's like riding in a dusty coffin.
- Major Seth Adams: Don't be cheerful, Charlie.
- Bill Hawks: Man, it sure is a beautiful night.
- Charlie Wooster: I don't like it. It's too big and empty.
- Bill Hawks: Yeah, I know what you mean. It's like we're the last ones left on Earth.
- Flint McCullough: That means: To die a little.
- Angela DeVarga: You speak my language.
- Flint McCullough: I realise now, I always have.
- Flint McCullough: You said that the border between us was only a line that anybody could cross with a single step. It seems impossible now. If it was a man, I'd know what to do. But how do you fight a whole country?
- Major Seth Adams: I don't suppose, by any chance, you've talked that pal of yours, McCullough, into taking this trip with us, have you?
- Caleb Jamison: No, sir. Flint's got some big plans of his own.
- Stage coach clerk: Good morning, Major Adams.
- Major Seth Adams: You don't have to yell at me.
- [He and his hangover board the coach, then Flint arrives, striding along the road in his black coach clothes]
- Caleb Jamison: You know, Major Adams should have seen you in your coaching days. Remember that? Your high-polished black boots. Your black trousers. Your black shirt. Your handkerchief knotted just so. Even among the drivers you cut quite a figure.
- Flint McCullough: Oh, I enjoyed coaching. I guess I just outgrew it.
- Charlie Wooster: [Both Charlie and Bill are much the worse for wear in their fine city clothes] What'd we do last night, Bill?
- Bill Hawks: Charles, My Boy, we did SAN-FRAN-SIS-CO.
- Charlie Wooster: Did I have a good time?
- Bill Hawks: Well, you cried a lot.
- Charlie Wooster: [Bill whacks Charlie's hat back on his head] Ow.
- Major Seth Adams: I must say you bit off quite a chunk, didn't ya? I must say you're chewing it pretty good.
- Flint McCullough: Thanks. You know, coming from you that means a whole lot.
- Major Seth Adams: Well, you're looking kinda tired. Why don't you let Bill and me take over for a while.
- Flint McCullough: No, thanks, it's my responsibility.
- Major Seth Adams: Aw, don't be so goldarn stubborn, will ya. You've got a long ways to go. Why don't you accept help where you can get it. I can drive, Bill will ride shotgun. How about it?
- Flint McCullough: Well, it's 15 miles to the next way station. If you can take it that far, I'll be mighty grateful.
- Caleb Jamison: You thinking about Angela again?
- Flint McCullough: Yeah. I just can't figure her out.
- Caleb Jamison: You think Senorita DeVarga is your Spanish dancer?
- Flint McCullough: WELL, you've had a long look at her, haven't you?
- Caleb Jamison: I was never as fortunate as you to know her as well as you.
- Flint McCullough: What I can't figure out is why. WHY?
- Flint McCullough: If you had asked for my help on San Fransisco, just asked for it, no tricks, no lies, I'd've done anything for you.
- Angela DeVarga: Flint?
- Flint McCullough: Oh, we're back to first names, are we.
- Angela DeVarga: Flint, may I try to explain?
- Flint McCullough: With a gun in your hand?
- Angela DeVarga: I don't blame you for hating me.
- Flint McCullough: It's very broad-minded of you.
- Angela DeVarga: Flint, before you judge me, at least hear what I have to say.
- Flint McCullough: You got something to say, you can say it to everybody.
- Angela DeVarga: What I have to say right now, concerns only you and me.
- Flint McCullough: Nothing concerns only you and me any more.
- Angela DeVarga: Flint, please.
- Flint McCullough: You said you didn't speak my language, Remember? You were right.
- Major Seth Adams: Mexican Independence. Then you're all Revolutionists, huh?
- Angela DeVarga: Si, we follow Porfirio Díaz, the Hope of Mexico.
- Flint McCullough: The coach is carrying United States Mail. I don't think you want our Government mixed up in your Revolution.
- Angela DeVarga: We ask only for a few hours of your time and the use of this coach.
- Flint McCullough: You haven't asked for anything.
- Flint McCullough: Major, what would you do?
- Major Seth Adams: Like he says, you're the driver.
- Angela DeVarga: How ironical and sad that I should be the messenger of my people and the decision, which means life or death to us, must come from you who hate me so bitterly.
- Flint McCullough: Mexico?
- Major Seth Adams: I told you you took the wrong turn back at Filamore. But no, you always know better than anybody else.
- Angela DeVarga: If my life were my own to give, I would come to you and I would say: Let me be all things to you. Let me honour and respect you. Follow you all the days of my life.
- Major Seth Adams: We made it all right. St Louis Missoura via Tucson Arizona, Mexico and Apache Pass.
- Caleb Jamison: [Angela Delgado - Last Appearance. She dances] If I had company like that on a boat to New Orleans, you wouldn't be able to get me on the coach either. Listen, Flint. With this, with this keen appreciation you've always shown for the opposite sex, how come you've been able to escape marriage all this time.
- Flint McCullough: I haven't always wanted to escape. Guess I just haven't stayed in the same place long enough.
- Caleb Jamison: Why don't you just get up the trail?
- Flint McCullough: No, no. I'm a restless man.
- Major Seth Adams: I want to talk to that charter headed driver, you blithering nincompoop. What are you trying to do?
- Caleb Jamison: You have 20 minutes at this stop, folks. Dinner will be served inside.
- Flint McCullough: [Flint smiles his best, innocent but mischievous grin] Hello, Major Adams.
- Major Seth Adams: YOU WERE DRIVING?
- Flint McCullough: You've got 20 minutes to get your dinner.
- Major Seth Adams: HE WAS DRIVING? DO YOU REALISE WHAT COULD HAPPEN DRIVING AT THAT RATE OF SPEED? ON SUCH A TRAIL?
- Flint McCullough: I think so. I was in the driver's seat.
- Major Seth Adams: BUT YOU HAVE NO RIGHT IN A DRIVER'S SEAT.
- Flint McCullough: Major Adams, this is not the wagon train. This is a stagecoach. And you know as well as I do, the driver's in charge.
- Major Seth Adams: MCCULLOUGH!
- Flint McCullough: Major Adams, I hope it won't be necessary for me to put you off the coach.
- Major Seth Adams: HOW DARE YOU PUT THAT FELLOW IN THE DRIVER'S BOX!
- Caleb Jamison: I'm sorry you were uncomfortable, Major. But we did pick up two hours.
- Flint McCullough: If you're angry, let's talk about it. Don't play games with me.
- Angela DeVarga: No tengo la intención de, Senor.
- Flint McCullough: You know who I am, and I know who you are. Now, What's the good of this?
- Angela DeVarga: Déjame pasar, por favor. Estás cometiendo un error.
- Antonio DeVargo: The Senorita says you're making a mistake, Senor.
- Flint McCullough: Tell the Senorita I won't make the mistake again.
- Flint McCullough: Give me some more line on the leaders. And shorten the tug on the swing. Okay, Charlie, hook up the wheelers.
- Charlie Wooster: What a fine time to change teams. We could be ambushed here, y'know.
- Major Seth Adams: Not here, the
- [Apache]
- Major Seth Adams: pass is the dangerous spot.
