The town of Sweetwater confronts the evil pf slavery and the Fugitive Slave
Law which mandated that runaway slaves were fair game for slave catchers in
free states and the territories. Citizens and law enforcement had to aid and
assist slave catchers like Tim Thomerson. What's unsaid is that the Dred Scott
Decision from the Supreme Court said that black people free or not had no
right to sue in courts because they were not citizens.
Stan Shaw as the runaway slave Ulysses is an unperson in 1860 USA. But he killed a master after too many whippings and not all of them to himself.
Ty Miller who's from Virginia we learn did not come from a slave owning family. But he accepted the institution as he found it. Knowing Shaw now has made him rethink a few things.
