Z- Cars –1962 This is the third episode from the long running UK Police show, Z-Cars. This series ran for 16 years and 799 episodes.

A young couple, June Barry and Philip Martin, are parked by a dark quarry one night. They are about to begin a little round of clutch and grab when an explosion in the quarry rocks the car.

The two hurry to the nearest phone and call the Police. A police car with Jeremy Kemp and James Ellis is quickly dispatched to the scene. They secure the site till Detective Philip Stone shows.

Stone finds the remains of some old unstable dynamite. It appears that some of the explosives are missing from the storage shed. Stone also says the dynamite is old and unstable and could go off at the slightest jolt.

Brian Blessed and Joseph Brady are in another Police car on the way to the scene when the get sidetracked. They find an abandoned van on the side of the road. A quick check of the plates is made. The van belongs to some local crooks, Arthur Lowe and his sons, Mike Brennan and Anthony Sagar. Lowe and his boys are known to the Police as break and enter men.

Lowe has a history of pulling a job, running the swag home and then leaving his van parked a few blocks away. If the Police come asking about a burglary, Lowe just says his van has been stolen, so it could not have been him.

Blessed and Brady decide to pay Lowe a visit. Before Blessed and partner arrive at Lowe's house, we discover that Brennan and Sagar had been the ones to raid the quarry explosives shed. They have a buyer for said explosives. The boys head off to meet their contact taking the dynamite with them. That is, all but one stick, which Lowe has kept.

Blessed and Brady are now with Lowe and are grilling him and his wife, Edna Petrie. Blessed finds the stick of explosives and manages to move it outside before it goes off. Lowe, not wanting his boys blown to bits tells the Police were to find Brennan and Sagar.

Blessed and Brady radio in the info, jump in their car and head for the truck stop where the sale of the explosives is to happen. Kemp, Ellis and Detective Chief Inspector, Stratford Johns, get there first.

Brennan and Sagar have already sold the explosives to Clifford Jackson. Jackson left just before the boys in blue arrived. Into the cars again and off in pursuit of Jackson they go.

They pull Jackson over and remove the explosives, dumping the sticks in a nearby field. Several minutes later it all goes up in a big blast. Brennan, Sagar and Jackson are arrested and hauled off to the clink.

This is the first episode I've seen since 1964. It holds up pretty well imo, with a good pace and lots of action. (b/w)
