This episode begins with a child coming home and as he runs inside he is yelling for his mother. He finds his mother murdered and a man inside the house. The child is in luck as the a man on a buckboard was nearby and he runs toward him. The man in the house runs off into the prairie.
Not too long afterwards there is a posse after the man, Jesse Harp, with a hound dog tracking his scent. Jesse comes upon a man called Sundown Smith that is resting in the woods. He steals his horse and makes Sundown change shoes with him. Now the dog is tracking Sundown instead of Jesse.
With the posses chasing Sundown, Jesse knows that the only person that can identify him is the child. So he returns to the scene of the crime to silents the child. Sundown also believes that Jesse will return to the house, so he shakes the posse and heads to the house. Sure enough Jesse is in the area.
I had only seen Jack Carson, the man that played Sundown, a few times in other productions but was never impressed with his performance. However, in this episode, Mr Carson took the lead and made the viewer feel right in the middle of the action. A fine performance by the late Jack Carson. An enjoyable story that was thrilling from beginning to end.
